  • Karen Harnish

Karen is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor’s degree in Applied Psychology from Penn State University. She is certified by the National Board for Certified Counselors and is also a Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner. With extensive experience working with individuals facing serious and persistent mental health challenges—including schizophrenia, psychosis, major mood disorders, bipolar disorder, and anxiety—Karen is passionate about helping her clients navigate their unique journeys to recovery.

Karen works with adults and transition-age youth (ages 14–17), offering a compassionate and personalized approach to counseling. She believes in focusing on her clients’ potential for growth, self-discovery, and inherent strengths, rather than solely on their challenges. By creating a safe and supportive space, Karen helps her clients feel accepted, heard, and empowered to explore what truly matters to them.

Her counseling style emphasizes collaboration and recovery, integrating evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based techniques. Karen is dedicated to tailoring her approach to the individual needs of each client, helping them uncover their strengths, build resilience, and achieve emotional well-being.

Karen understands that life can be difficult, but she also believes that with the right support and guidance, positive change is always possible. Her goal is to help each client find meaning, balance, and fulfillment in their lives.
